The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating print and digital materials for the following areas: programs and exhibit promotions, museum signage, web banners, internal and external communications, public relations, and events. These materials will be used to communicate directly with museum guests and supporters and enhance their overall experience in the museum and with the brand. This is a part-time position that is expected to be scheduled up to 25 hours per week. The number of hours may vary based on business needs.
Responsibilities or Duties
Design assigned print and web materials that enhance the brand and the overall guest and supporter experience. Use templates and archived designs as appropriate.
Understand and follow The Tech’s brand guidelines.
Work with other departments to produce a broad range of deliverables, including web banners, printed materials, brochures, slides, ads, signs and special projects.
Print designs such as signs, banners, and exhibit text, and cut and trim as needed.
Install new and replacement signage in the museum lobby and exhibit areas.
Prepare and install signage for both onsite and offsite events and signature programs.
Develop and maintain templates, maintain project/brand portfolio, and archive files for assigned jobs.
Under the direction of the Senior Graphic Designer work from production schedules and manage time to prioritize daily workload. Ensure work is completed on time.
Work with vendors as assigned.
Requirements or Key Qualifications
Degree or equivalent training in associated field.
Previous experience in advertising or design studio environment.
Proven ability to produce quality work and find solutions on deadline and within budget.
Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, and PhotoShop).
Background in brand identity, typography and digital pre-press.
Strong attention to detail required.
Ability to use artist tools (X-Acto knife, straight edge, etc.).
Basic understanding of web design principles and digital displays (banner animation, RGB color process, image file creation and compression, screen legibility, etc.).
Ability to respond effectively and appropriately to creative feedback.
Ability to sustain positive and professional demeanor despite unscheduled work, revisions, and short timetables.
Experience working with images. Knowledge and experience with photography a plus.
