SAN JOSE, CA – In a land of plenty, hunger is still ever-present. To help make a dent in the problem, The Tech Museum of Innovation is sponsoring a holiday food drive – and offering free admission to the new hit showcase, MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition.
In Silicon Valley, more than one in 10 people will turn to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties this holiday season. And The Tech wants to make sure enough food is on the shelves.
From Monday, November 26 to Wednesday, December 12, and December 17 - 21, visitors who donate two food items - made up of high-quality, high-need items such as tuna, soups, chili, or canned fruits and vegetables, low-sugar cereals, and fruit juices - receive one free admission per person to the exhibition. Tickets are redeemable Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 7 p.m. during the weeks of the food drive only. The offer excludes December 4, 13, 14 and special events.
“The Tech is vested in the welfare of the community; it’s one of our core values. Being a good neighbor means extending yourself to help others in need,” said Tim Ritchie, president of The Tech. “So, we are proud to work with the food bank for a third year to address the critical issue of hunger.”
Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is a trusted leader in ending local hunger in every city from Daly City to Gilroy. In 2012, they distributed 45 million pounds of food to low-income people. The need increases during the holiday season with a goal of $12.4 million and 2 million pounds of food to ensure that everyone in the community will get a meal this holiday season.
MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition, which marks its first and only Bay Area appearance at The Tech, is based on the hit TV show and allows visitors to put their scientific curiosity to the test. Try a dozen hands-on experiments that will get your heart and mind racing, watch live MythBusting demonstrations, and explore authentic props and gadgets direct from the MythBusters set.
