Mimes and Super Heroes and Asteroids – Oh, My! The Tech Museum of Innovation kicks off 2nd Annual Bay Area Science Festival with a wacky line up of science and fun for all ages
SAN JOSE, CA – The Tech will be the South Bay hub of science activity, where guests will build their own planes, chat with a mime in Italy and party until they drop at our Day of the Dead bash – all part of the thrilling Bay Area Science Festival.
The Tech joins other Bay Area institutions for the 10-day science fest, beginning October 25 to November 3. More than 50 events are planned across the Bay Area, with The Tech intending to unleash the inner scientist in everyone with a host of happenings.
“The Tech Museum is committed to bringing out the innovator in everyone and we are excited to be part of a major Bay Area-wide event that aligns so closely with our own goals,” Tim Ritchie, The Tech President, said. “The Bay Area Science Festival represents a great opportunity to get everyone interested in science – no matter the age.”
The Tech will host several events, including:
- October 25 (11:00 a.m.): Mima la Scienza! Costumes, silly skits, and laughs galore? Via a live-link to the Genoa Science Festival, students will pantomime science concepts to students in Italy. Watch as they connect across the world through technology and overcome language barriers with the universal language of science.
- November 1 (7:00p.m.): Join us for our Day of the Dead themed After Hours! This month, enjoy Blood Orange Tech-tinis from our no-host bar, as you explore the museum and celebrate a rich cultural tradition, including live dances from Grupo Folklorico Luna y Sol de San Jose State, sugar skulls, and maybe even get your photo taken with the comely Catrina! We encourage you to dress to match the Day of the Dead theme. Tickets available at www.thetech.org for $10 each.
- November 3 (12:00 p.m.) Willow Garage’s PR2 robot returns to The Tech. Create your own programs for the robot and then see your code come to life. Make PR2 dance to your favorite song, dress in costume, act like a movie star – anything you can imagine.
- November 3 (11:00a.m.): Join us at The Tech’s booth in San Francisco and learn the science behind flight. Build your own flying machine and join us for the spectacular failures and successes of flight!
