The Mother of All Books

Press Release Date
Thursday, 16 July, 2009
Douglas Engelbart who, forty years ago revolutionized the computer industry in what is now known as "The Mother of All Demos," will engage in a probing Question & Answer session followed by the unveiling of his new, limited-edition book: "The Engelbart Hypothesis: The Philosophy Behind Doug Engelbart's Technology Inventions for Raising Collective IQ." The book - co-written by Valerie Landau and Eileen Clegg - focuses on the thinking that informed Engelbart's renowned inventions that helped launch the personal computing revolution just over forty years ago. He is best known for his invention of the computer mouse and production of the "1968 Demo," which first showed the personal/networked computing innovations that would increasingly resonate with the mainstream over the next four decades. Engelbart had hoped his technological breakthroughs would lead to improvements in our "collective intelligence," harnessing the combined brainpower of large groups to reach more superior responses to urgent and complex issues of our time.
