Dr. Thomas Fogarty will receive the Golden Gizmo Award for his development of the first embolectomy catheter, the first balloon catheter to be used in less invasive vascular surgery.
The 7th annual Gizmo Auction Gala is a wacky, irreverent evening of fun, where Silicon Valley's movers and shakers gather to bid on everything from Bell Labs notebooks to trips to search for ET. This year's event reflects The Tech's "Life and Health" theme for 2003-2004. Participants are invited to wear their zaniest medical costumes, and mix it up with the best and brightest from the Valley's medical, biotech, and high tech companies, in support of the museum's educational outreach activities. Activities will include ambulance and gurney rides, lab rat races, a giant game of Operation, a silent auction, and a theatrical live auction.
