The blockbuster STAR TREK®: THE EXHIBITION has been extended to April 11, thanks to a deep human fascination with the largest-ever collection of artifacts from the out-of-this-world science fiction series.
More than 50,000 visitors have boldly gone into the Star Trek universe, many emerging with high marks for the stellar showcase of original costumes, genuine props and authentic recreations of sets from all five Star Trek television series and 11 Star Trek feature films, including the new box-office smash hit. The exhibition is making its only Bay Area appearance at The Tech Museum in downtown San Jose.
"The response to this exhibition has been, well, stellar," said Peter Friess, president of The Tech Museum. "By extending the exhibition, we give more people the chance to explore the Star Trek universe and see how much of the science fiction in the series has become science fact."
Visitors can enjoy an added bonus for an additional fee: "Star Trek: The IMAX Experience" will run for the length of the exhibition. The summer 2009 chartbuster, which chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow U.S.S Enterprise crew, is one of the top 50 highest grossing films of all time as well as the highest grossing Star Trek film ever released.
Guests can also test their knowledge of all things Star Trek on an all-new, interactive game table that challenges one's Star Trek IQ. Or, for an extra fee, they can hop aboard two, full-motion simulator rides. Computer-generated sequences take riders out of the U.S.S Enterprise-D aboard Starfleet shuttles and on a thrilling "flight" through the solar system.
As in past blockbusters such as "Leonardo: 500 Years into the Future," The Tech Museum has partnered with Team San Jose to bring popular showcases to Silicon Valley.
"We've been thrilled with the great response from fans and first timers alike," said Dan Fenton, CEO of Team San Jose. "The extension gives Bay Area residents and visitors yet another chance to experience this unique exhibit. San Jose is the optimal setting for blockbuster events like this one."
