Hispanic Heritage Month festivities include exhibit, Astronaut visits and IMAX films
The Tech Museum of Innovation honors the Latino community for its contributions in science, technology and space exploration in a month long celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, October 4 to 27, 2002.
Celebration activities include:
- Dia de la Raza on October 12, 2002
- Visits from NASA astronauts Carlos I. Noriega and Sidney M. Gutierrez.
- NASA exhibits highlighting Latino contributions in the field of space exploration
- IMAX films Mexico and Space Station in Spanish
- Tech staff will be inspiring over 400 Latino students in surrounding school districts as part of our after school outreach program.
On Dia de la Raza on October 12, enjoy a full day of entertainment with the All-Star youth mariachis from Mexican Heritage Corporation and dancers from Brenda Lopez Folkloric Group. Active astronaut Carlos I. Noriega will speak to museum guests.
On Tuesday, October 8 former NASA astronaut Sidney Gutierrez will be speaking to our after-school program participants from 3 to 5 PM in New Venture Hall.
Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, Mexico and Space Station will be showing in Spanish and English in The Tech's Hackworth IMAX Dome Theaters. Mexico offers a rich and insightful journey into the magnificence and power of Mexico. Space Station is the story of the greatest engineering feat since landing a man on the moon- the construction of the International Space Station.
