In keeping with its tradition of earnest support for The Tech Museum of Innovation, SAP America Inc., presented a significant gift to the museum's signature science education program, Tech Challenge, becoming a Founding Corporate Sponsor.
SAP, a leading international business software company, has consistently provided financial support to The Tech, aiding its foremost programs - Tech Challenge and the international technology honors gala, The Tech Awards. SAP's 2009 donation to Tech Challenge is nearly double what the company gave to support the program in 2008 and 2007.

Tech Challenge is an annual team-design challenge for youth in grades 5 through 12. Now in its 22nd year, the signature program introduces and reinforces the scientific process with a hands-on project geared to solve a real-world problem. The 2009 challenge: Explore the Volcano! Students must design a flying device to transport a sensor to the top or inside rim of a volcano.
"Tech Challenge represents the best opportunity for students to work in a team environment, pooling their creative and intellectual experiences to come up with winning solutions to actual problems," said Peter Friess, president of The Tech. "Thanks to generous gifts from donors like SAP, The Tech continues to be able to influence youth to follow careers into science and technology and to encourage them to use their innovations for the betterment of humankind."
The project-based nature of Tech Challenge makes it unique from any other science-based program or competition for youth. It culminates in Tech Challenge Event Day, when all teams come together to demonstrate their solutions. An awards ceremony recognizing areas from "Best Overall Solution" to "Most Spectacular Failure" follows the event.
