Play and its connection to the innovative mind are now open for exploration through September 5 at The Tech. Invention at Play focuses on the similarities between the way children and adults play and the creative processes used by innovators in science and technology. IDEA House Open Through September 5 How can you design tools to make your life easier and more exciting|@ Find out by visiting IDEA House, a unique programming space filled with hands-on activities and challenges to put your ideas into overdrive. Design contraptions to spice up delivery of snacks from the kitchen to the couch, devise a Fido Fling that will save you from having to play fetch with your dog over and over, and a lot more. Pick up an activity kit to continue innovating at home. FRESH @ THE TECH Conversations with the Future Speaker Series: Professor Hank Greely Thursday, August 25 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Join Stanford Professor Hank Greely on August 25 for "The Neuroscience Revolution – Ethics and the Law." Greely will discuss the ethical and legal implications for emerging technologies related to brain function. This is the second installment in The Tech's Conversations with the Future adult speaker series. A cocktail reception begins at 6:30 p.m., with the presentation running from 7 -8:30 p.m. General admission is $35, Tech member admission is $25, and student admission is $10. Paintings and Sculpture by Artist Karl Momen Through September 5 Works by internationally renowned Bay Area Artist Karl Momen are now on free display in The Tech's New Venture Hall. This multi-medium show features painting, sculpture, and a special triptych of paint on silk-screened aluminum that symbolizes the highly structured world of modern technology. Long fascinated by the tension between man and machine, Momen uses geometric shapes to depict a universe of balanced forces. Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon Opening in IMAX September 23 Magnificent Desolation, produced by Tom Hanks, takes audiences to the surface of the moon to walk alongside the extraordinary Apollo astronauts who have stepped upon its surface. With never before seen photographs, CGI renditions for the lunar landscape and previously unreleased NASA footage, audiences will be immersed in the life-changing experiences of these astronauts by illustrating what they saw, heard, felt, thought and did while on the lunar surface. Participate in a Virtual Arm Wrestle using haptic technology, express yourself by publishing and posting a web site, take a tour around the globe with our amazing world-wide webcams, and so much more. CURRENT IMAX FILMS Mystery of the Nile Now Playing From the makers of Everest comes a breathtaking cinematic expedition down the world's greatest and most deadly river, the Blue Nile. Upcoming Free Days: August 14 and September 11 Free Wireless Internet Access @ The Tech's Café Primavera Grab a bite to eat and check your email at Café Primavera in The Tech's lobby. Hungry museum goers, downtown workers and convention attendees can nosh on delicious sandwiches and healthy salads while getting the latest news on their laptops or PDAs. VOLUNTEERS The Tech is looking for volunteers to join the museum crew to help engage people of all ages and backgrounds in exploring and experiencing the technologies that affect our lives. Inspire young people to become tomorrow's innovators, and have lots of fun along the way! Must be at least 15 and able to make a commitment of one year, eight hours per month.
