************************************************************************ FRESH @ THE TECH "Game On: The History and Culture of Videogames" Opens September 30 Explore the history, culture and future of video games at this temporary exhibit. "Game On" is a highly interactive exhibit that examines the exploding video game industry from the game design process and beyond. Come experience the past forty years of electronic gaming, and reflect on where the industry will go next. "Game On" was organized by the Barbican Art Gallery London in collaboration with the National Museums of Scotland. "Game On" will be at The Tech through January 6, 2006. New IMAX Film Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon starts September 23 Magnificent Desolation, produced by Tom Hanks, takes audiences to the surface of the moon to walk alongside the extraordinary Apollo astronauts who have stepped upon its surface. With never before seen photographs, CGI renditions for the lunar landscape and previously unreleased NASA footage, audiences will be immersed in the life-changing experiences of these astronauts by illustrating what they saw, heard, felt, thought and did while on the lunar surface. 4th Annual MaxGames Video Game Tournament October 8 Practice your quick reaction times and flex your fingers for the Tech's 4th Annual MaxGames. See if you have what it takes to compete tournament-style on consoles for cool prizes and a chance to play in the finals on The Tech's Giant Domed Screen. Proceeds support The Tech's Annual Fund for Education. UPCOMING EVENTS Girl Scout Day October 23 Join The Tech for an exciting Girl Scout Badge event. Juniors will earn "Toymaker" badges and Brownies will earn "Point, Click, and Go" badges. A special Girl Scout Activity Passport will guide Girl Scouts though The Tech's multiple themed galleries, including the West Coast premiere of "Game On." See your favorite films over or catch one of the newest IMAX films. Featured films include: Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon, Mysteries of Egypt, Mystery of the Nile, Adventures in Wild California, Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West, Coral Reef, Blue Planet, Everest, Forces of Nature and India: Kingdom of the Tiger. The Tech Museum Awards Gala November 9 The Tech Museum Awards, presented by Applied Materials, Inc., is a unique and prestigious program that honors and awards innovators from around the world who use technology to benefit humanity in the categories of Education, Equality, Environment, Economic Development, and Health. Twenty-five Tech Laureates will be honored at a black-tie celebration. One Laureate in each category will be awarded a $50,000 cash prize. Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire Opens in IMAX November 18 Experience the magical world of Harry Potter in IMAX. EXHIBITS "Nikon International Small World" Exhibit at The Tech РNow Through October 23 Get a glimpse into a world that most have never seen, except through the lens of a microscope, when viewing the award-winning photomicrographs in the "Nikon International Small World" exhibition. This free exhibition will be located in The Tech's New Venture Hall. "NetPl@net" - A New Tech Gallery Now Open This hands-on, permanent gallery will inspire visitors to use the Internet in unique new ways, and to dream up the next Internet innovation! Participate in Virtual Arm Wrestle using haptic technology, express yourself by publishing and posting a web site, take a tour around the globe with our amazing world-wide webcams, and so much more. CURRENT IMAX FILMS Mystery of the Nile Now Playing From the makers of Everest comes a breathtaking cinematic expedition down the world's greatest and most deadly river, the Blue Nile. VOLUNTEERS The Tech is looking for volunteers to join the museum crew to help engage people of all ages and backgrounds in exploring and experiencing the technologies that affect our lives.
