Guest Services Representative (3/4 time)
The Guest Services Representative is a front-line contact person for all guests visiting or inquiring about The Tech and promotes increased and repeat attendance by providing outstanding service. The Guest Services Representive handles cash transactions at the ticketing and concessions areas, gives verbal presentations to school field trips when they arrive and reports to the Guest Services Leads and Guest Services Senior Manager. This position comes with a comprehensive benefit package.
Responsibilities
- Offer superior service to potential and actual guests to the museum according to established procedures.
- Greet and interact with guests enthusiastically and proactively.
- Provide general information about The Tech, its programs, IMAX Theater and exhibits in a courteous manner.
- Handle a large volume of in-person questons about The Tech, exhibits, programs, films, special events as well as the downtown San Jose area.
- Handle gallery and/or IMAX entry sales at the Admissions desk, Group entrance or Will Call desk.
- Direct guests to correct locations and handle tickets at entry and exit control points.
- Be knowledgeable about The Tech's mission, programs and exhibits and stay current with the functioning of the entire institution.
- Greet school groups by meeting teachers at buses outside the Group entrance, giving chaperone and student instructions to large groups in a busy and noisy environment and direct groups to their final destination within the museum.
- Work collaboratively with other Guest Services staff, other museum staff and volunteer to provide an efficient and seamless experience for guests.
- Maintain high standards in general housekeeping to provide an inviting and friendly atmosphere.
- Staff and service guests at the IMAX Concessions stand by inventorying and stocking candy and beverage product, popping and serving popcorn, keeping condiment area clean and stocked and using the register system for handling cash transactions.
- Ticket, escort and seat IMAX Theater guests and assist guests with special needs to ensure a smooth, safe and timely film experience.
- Coordinate seating and exiting of theater guests and explain concepts/ideas of IMAX technology to museum guests.
- Ensure the theater appearance is presentable for all film screenings by cleaning the theater in between shows.
- In the event of an emergency, assist with all necessary crisis management and follow directed procedures to ensure staff, volunteer and guest safety.
- Assist in other Museum Operations departments when needed.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- One or more years of retail, sales, museum and/or customer service experience.
- Outgoing, positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with the public and especially children.
- Excellent communication skills and professional phone manner.
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as accomplish work independently.
- Ability to adhere to The Tech's grooming guidelines and provide a professional appearance.
- Punctual with the ability to adhere to scheduled shifts.
- Accurate cash handling skills.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office, Windows, internet).
- Flexible availability.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time in both an indoor and outdoor environment.
- Ability to bend and lift repeatedly.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
- Prior experience with point-of-sale cash handling systems preferred.
- Prior experience in public speaking desired.
