Electric Giraffe Project

Maker: Lindsay Lawlor, San Diego, CA

Coming to The Tech July 23, The Electric Giraffe Project is an electromechanical giraffe that moves its legs and responds with short phrases when people touch its head.

How Does It Work
Lindsay initially wanted to create an art car for Burning Man but that project morphed into the Electric Giraffe Project. When he began building the giraffe, Lindsay was uncertain about how he’d make the giraffe’s legs move. After playing with a small toy giraffe, he realized he could copy the toy’s leg design and scale it up for his giant robotic giraffe.

About the Maker
Lindsay learned how to create robots by reading manuals and tinkering with materials. Electromechanical devices and animals inspire his work.
