Why do we have a Space Telescope Anyway?
arrrrgh! MY EYES!

Reason #2:
The Earth's Atmosphere
Blocks Radiation

To understand this, you first have to understand something about radiation. Whether you know it or not, you use your eyes to pick up radiation every day. On purpose. But, it's nothing to worry about. Our eyes are designed to pick up some types of radiatio n. It's how we see. We call this kind of radiation "visible light."

Visible light is made up of certain wavelengths of radiation. When you see a rainbow, you're actually seeing these different wavelengths. Each color has its own wavelength. The wavelengths that make up visible light are just one part of what we call the electromagnetic spectrum.
