What kind of instruments are on board the telescope?
arrows

Wide Field Planetary Camera (WF/PC)

WF/PC is the busiest instrument on HST. Most of the pictures you see from the Hubble are taken by the WF/PC.

Faint Object Camera (FOC)

FOC is very sensitive and is designed to take pictures of very faint or distant objects.

Near Infrared Camera and Multi-image Spectrograph (NICMOS)

This is a brand new instrument to be installed in Hubble during the servicing mission in February. It is capable of viewing wavelengths in the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Space Telescope Imaging Spectragraph (STIS)

This is also a new instrument. STIS is replacing the two original Hubble spectrographs: the Faint Object Spectrograph and the High Resolution Spectrograph. STIS will provide greater capability than these older instruments.
