Eric Paulos was born in Los
Angeles, California in 1969 and is currently a graduate student
in the Computer Science Department at the University of California
at Berkeley. His research focuses on robotics and Internet-based
telepresence. In 1995 Paulos began building "ProPs" (Personal
Roving Presence), two-way wireless rovers controlled via the
Internet. The first ProPs were controllable blimps; later versions
were roving ground-based vehicles.
Paulos is involved in research and projects that explore the relationship between
human beings and technology. In 1997 he worked on a number of projects with Mark
Pauline of Survival Research Laboratories. In that same year, Paulos created
the Experimental Interaction Unit (EIU) which "is actively engaged in ongoing
research into the physical, aural, visual, and gestural interactions between
humans and machines." |
