Featured Satellite—ACeS Garuda-1—one of the most powerful telecommunications satellites ever launched—is the first of a constellation of spacecraft that will make up the ASIA Cellular Satellite (ACeS) System. The ACeS system is the first regional satellite-based, handheld mobile telecommunications system designed exclusively for the Asia-Pacific region.
The Garuda-1 satellite incorporates state-of-the-art design and production techniques. The ACeS system has the potential to provide communication services to Asia's three billion people, many of whom don't have telecommunication services now.
