The day the lights went out

If there were suddenly no electricity at home or school, how would you know what time to wake up or go from class to class? Could you still have a cold glass of orange juice or fresh milk on your cereal? Would you be able to listen to the radio or use the computer? How would you get around your home if there were no light when the sun went down? How would your life be different if this went on for a whole week . . . or longer?

  1. Alone, or in groups of three, brainstorm on a piece of paper what your life might be like if you did not have electricity for a whole day and night. Start from the time you wake up in the morning, and go through the entire day.

  2. Based on your brainstorming, write a 2 or 3 minute skit demonstrating what life would be like. Think about what you would be spending the day doing, how you would eat, or stay warm or cool. What would happen when night came?

  3. Practice your skit and then perform it in front of an audience.
That's better!
