Cloning is an extreme form of genetic engineering. Humans have been engaging in genetic engineering for thousands of years in the fields of agriculture. Long ago farmers realized that by only breeding plants or animals with the most favorable traits they could increase the number of plants or animals that had those favorable traits.

Remember that traits are the physical representation of your genes. For people being tall or having brown hair are traits; for an apple tree, producing lots of large apples is a trait (each of these traits is controlled by a different gene). Although there were no laboratories involved, these acts of selective breeding laid the foundation for future genetic engineering.

Cloning, as a form of genetic engineering, is very powerful. Let's imagine that a perfect sheep is born. Instead of just breeding that sheep with another sheep and hoping you get the same traits, you could clone that perfect being and create a whole population like it. What do you think are some negative implications of this?
