Sometimes the best way to understand the difference between liquids and solids is to get your hands dirty. Go to the Ooze Web site, find the recipe for making your own batch, then test to find whether it is a liquid or solid.

Once you've made your Ooze, try these tests:

1.

Pick up a handful and squeeze it. Stop squeezing and it will drip through your fingers. Is the Ooze acting as a liquid or solid?

2.

Rest your fingers on the surface of the Ooze. Let them sink down to the bottom of the bowl. Then try to pull them out fast. What happens?

3.

Take a blob and roll it between your hands to make a ball. Then stop rolling. The Ooze will trickle away between your fingers. Is the Ooze a liquid or solid now?

4.

Put a small plastic toy on the surface. Does it stay there or does it sink?
