We all know that Silicon Valley is an innovative place. But do you know about the amazing inventions and discoveries that came out of the Islamic Golden Age of science and technology?

Bringing together science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) with hands-on learning, our latest Hands-On Science Workshop draws inspiration from The Tech Museum's blockbuster exhibit, Islamic Science Rediscovered, and the IMAX movie Arabia.

Travel back to the Golden Age of Islam to:
  • Explore the properties of light as you make a take-home pinhole camera.
  • Devise a way to move water using simple machines.
  • Be dazzled by the geometric tessellations to be found in arabesque mosaic art.
  • Discover how Hindu-Arabic numerals and the power of zero transformed the world. Design a balancing mobile made from geometric shapes as you get math equations in your hands, and then balance and solve your own algebraic equations.
From the 8th to the 18th century, Muslim scientists drew upon ideas from various cultures, from Greece to Egypt and India, which in turn produced a fountain of ideas that watered the multicultural roots of modern science and technology, ultimately leading to the technological ingenuity and innovative mindset that defines Silicon Valley today.

Islamic Science Rediscovered was researched and developed by MTE Studios, located in Dubai U.A.E and Capetown South Africa. MTE Studios has also played a major role in the design, manufacture and installation of numerous interactive exhibits at the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, Turkey. Recently, the multidisciplinary team delivered turnkey a museum on Islamic Science for King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia. © MTE Studios
