Explore land, sea, sky and space using technologies that expand our ability to investigate our world and our
universe.
The following highlights describe theme areas and how they align with the California Science Framework , as shown in * ( ).
Land *(physical science, earth science, force and motion, energy)
Study Bay Area plate tectonics and try to build earthquake proof structures on a 9 x 9 shake table. Analyze
data gathered from a research station on the San Andreas Fault in "The Parkfield Experiment", and find out how
to use seismometers and strainmeters.
Visit Living on a Restless Planet
Space *(technology, physical science, electricity and magnetism)
Explore the basics of space technology in a high-tech environment created from space station components,
overhead struts and floating astronauts in "Destination: Space". Take a trip to the Moon or Mars in
"To Other Worlds"; and in "To Infinity and Beyond", see images from the Hubble Space
Telescope and a model of the Hubble's mirror, and "listen" as SETI scientists do for sounds of intelligent life in
space.

Visit To Infinity and Beyond
Sky and Sea *(technology, physical science, scale and structure, oceanography)
In "Earth Watch", see Earth as seen from space through graphic images and multimedia programs. Build
a satellite; learn how satellites image the Earth in different forms: as a whole, in different wavelengths,
over time.
Visit Earth Watch
Plummet back to the Earth's surface and discover the ocean in "The Deep Frontier". Learn
about manned underwater exploration technologies, such as advanced diving suits that protect humans in
high-pressure environments. Work as a member of a team to maneuver a remotely operated vehicle in a large
aquatic tank.
