Upper Level
Discover creative processes and use inventions that have made Silicon Valley world famous! Students learn the processes of design technology by creating a roller coaster, designing a bicycle and operating a robot.
The following highlights describe theme areas and how they align with the California Science Framework , as shown in * ( ).
Pushing the Limits *(physical science, scale and structure, technology)
Find out about the people behind the inventions and innovative processes; develop your creative thinking at
"Innovation Forum". At the "Micro Bar", Tech staff and volunteers introduce you to
nanotechnology. Zoom in on a working microchip with a scanning electron microscope.
Visit Pushing the Limits
Miniature Revolution *(reactions and interactions, systems and interaction)
Step into a condensed microchip fabrication cleanroom. Hop into a bunny suit in the "Locker Room",
and learn all about the people, processes, and environment; necessary for making a microchip. Then, get the inside story
and investigate wafer robots in action in the "Chip Evolution" exhibit.

Virtual Worlds *(technology, force and motion, patterns of change)
Make a 3-D self-portrait. Create and test a roller coaster using sophisticated computer design tools and The
Tech Cyclone Roller Coaster simulator. Design bikes using computer-aided technology at the "Bike Design
Studio".
Visit Virtual Worlds
Robot Arena *(technology)
Operate and test your observation skills on a variety of mobile robots and robot arms.
"Robot Design Basics" enables you to design robots on a multimedia computer, and later, distinguish
robot fact from fiction. The "Robot Artist" draws your picture, while the "Robot Writer"
spells your name.
