Tech Fellows | Franklin-McKinley School District
Alie Victorine
Alie Victorine is a 6th grade teacher at Windmill Springs School in San Jose's Franklin-McKinley School District, where she's celebrating her tenth year as an educator. Her love of science led her to obtain a Bachelor's in Natural Science from San Jose State University. She went on to receive a Masters in Education with an emphasis in Science. Alie was selected as a member of the initial cohort of Tech Fellows in 2001. In addition to being a Tech Fellow, Alie teaches Science Methods as part of the Teacher Credential Program at San Jose State and is a consultant for National Geographic's School Publishing Division.
Alie enjoys teaching in a self-contained classroom and incorporates Design Challenge as a way to integrate science, technology, and history. Her Design Challenge unit, Farming Mesopotamia, not only integrates these disciplines, but it also increases students' awareness that ancient peoples' technologies were truly innovative and world changing. Throughout the unit, students have the opportunity to apply science concepts and see both the relevance of science and how it is used to solve problems. Most importantly, Alie says, "it is a heck of a lot of fun, watching kids explore, create and invent."
