Amy Kolb, Alie Victorine and Matt Giller
Windmill Springs Amy, Alie and Matt have been friends and colleagues for years as faculty members at Windmill Springs Year Round School in San Jose. Matt and Amy have created a unique 7th and 8th grade program that has incorporated Design Challenge into their science and history curriculums for the last four years. Students who are in Matt and Amy's self-contained combination (7th/8th grade) classes experience a rich learning environment that features an integrated approach to learning that combines inquiry, design challenge, student research, and connections to fiction and non-fiction works.
In addition to their regular teaching and Tech Fellows duties, Amy is the school GATE Coordinator and is heavily involved with the Special Olympics. Alie teaches a science methods course for emergency credentialed teachers through San Jose State University and is also a teacher consultant for the National Geographic Society School Trade Book Division and Matt is the ExLL literacy coach for the school and trains teachers in improving student literacy at the school, district and state levels. Amy, Alie and Matt share a passion for teaching. They also share interests in music, travel and even play on the same co-ed softball team. Amy and Matt's enthusiasm for Design Challenge inspired Alie, a 6th grade teacher, to join them as a Tech Fellow.
