Technovation Workshop: Innovation for the Future

To celebrate Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day

Thursday, February 20, 2014
For girls grades 4–8
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

The Tech Studio
Limitied capacity. Pre-registration required.
Participants will get free admission into the museum for the day. Parents and/or siblings will need to purchase tickets if they’d like to explore the museum during/after the workshop.

After a very successful Hack Day with 70+ girls learning to code their own apps in The Tech Studio, Technovation returns to The Tech to celebrate Girl Day during National Engineers Week, or E-Week. View The Tech's E-Week programs.

Technovation partners with The Tech for a workshop designed to empower girls to dream big and turn their ideas into reality. Girls will work in teams to identify a local or global challenge and how it can be solved or improved. They’ll brainstorm solutions, learn about app design, and present their ideas to the group. The girls will walk away knowing that they are not only consumers of technology, but creators.

Questions about Technovation's Innovation for the Future Workshop can be directed to Judy Ho: judy@iridescentlearning.org.

Technovation is a global technology entrepreneurship program for middle school, high school, and university age female students. They match teams of girls with a female mentor from the tech industry to support the teams as they learn to research, design, code, and pitch a mobile app to real investors.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day serves as a call to action to focus on getting more girls into engineering and technology. Each year "Girl Day" encourages women engineers, with support from their male counterparts, to directly mentor girls in grades K-12 with hands-on experiences in engineering.

Come meet fellow Technovation participants and familiarize yourself with App Inventor. This is a fantastic opportunity to work through tutorials, ask questions about the App Inventor platform, and kick off the 2014 Technovation season. Please bring your laptops and Android phones (if you have one) for this collaborative experience! (No prior coding experience is necessary.) Lunch will be provided. Space is limited to 50 participants, and priority will be given to female students and mentors.

Technovation is a technology entrepreneurship course for middle school, high school, and university age female students. We match teams of up to 5 girls with a female mentor from the tech industry to complete a 12-week program in which they learn to research, design, code, and pitch a mobile app to real investors. Teams use MIT's App Inventor to code their apps. So far, over 1,300 girls in 19 countries have already taken part, and the program is completely free for all participants.
