, is a web platform that brings together disparate data sources for an up-to-the minute comprehensive view of the current global state of infectious diseases and their effect on human and animal health. The authors, Clark Freifeld and John Brownstein, are researchers at Mass General Hospital in Boston.
"We are tremendously honored," Freifeld said of the award, which includes $1,000 cash. "We were also overly excited when receiving the award from Doug Engelbart through video chat. It was just a great honor." Conference judges elected five semi-finalists from 47 entries from around the world. The final winners of the Design Challenge, announced at a later date, will receive additional cash awards and their designs will be featured in The Tech Museum, The MIT Museum and elsewhere.
The conference, attended by more than 100 people, was inspired by the vision of technology pioneer Engelbart, who decades ago saw that our biggest problems were growing faster than our ability to solve them. In response, Engelbart began his life-long quest to improve our collective intelligence by helping people work better and smarter together. The hands-on, interactive conference brought together technology leaders and representatives of many disciplines — including health, business, education and science.About The Tech Museum of Innovation
