It’s been two decades since we first swung open the doors on our mango and azure building to inspire innovators young and old. Over the years, we’ve hosted exhibits from Leonardo da Vinci to Star Trek to MythBusters. We’ve camped out with you for Star Wars premieres, been the field trip of choice for a generation of Bay Area students and so much more. Take this walk down memory lane ... then plan your visit to The Tech!
Get your hands on cutting edge biotechnology in our newest activity, Making with Microbes, where you’ll experiment with making your own biomaterial. Work together with microbes as you make your own mix of food to help these tiny organisms manufacture a material with the consistency and color you’d like. In an experience you'll find only at The Tech, get ready to engineer this colorful, biomaterial that might feel like rough leather, or sticky cellophane, or even paper!
A new era of IMAX has come to The Tech. We have the world’s first IMAX Dome Theater with a 4K laser projector! That means brighter colors, fuller sound and we’ll be able to bring you more educational films and Hollywood blockbusters than ever before.
Registration for the 32nd annual Tech Challenge, presented by Dell is now open. Our annual youth engineering design program encourages students in Grades 4 through 12 to work in teams to solve a real world problem. This year’s challenge is No Roads, No Problem! and students will build a hovercraft that can travel over different terrain.
Spend summer at The Tech. Campers entering Grades 4-8 choose from 20 hands-on classes in science, technology, engineering and design, including brand new explorations into graphic design and environmental engineering, all right here at The Tech. Explore the full class list and sign up by Thursday, Feb. 28 to save up to $100+ per week of camp.
Thanks to unwavering support from staff, volunteers, donors and patrons, The Tech has grown to be far more than a museum. It is a valued community resource for education and innovation, one that in 2015 was awarded the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the highest honor a United States museum can achieve.
A year-round program of exhibits, education programs and special events that inspire the next generation to use technology to tackle global challenges. The theme for The Tech for Global Good’s second year is Technology and Sustainability, and an exhibit featuring five innovative organizations in this field can be seen on the Upper Level.
Congratulations to 2,000 or so students who took part in the 2018 program, Drop & Dash, presented by Dell. Check out our Flickr album for photos of the weekend. And we’ll see you in 2019!
