Prepare for the arrival of Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Borgs and, of course, Vulcans as STAR TREK: THE EXHIBITION sets a course for The Tech Museum at warp speed, opening October 23 in its only Bay Area appearance.
The extraordinary Exhibition includes the original costumes, genuine props and authentic recreations of sets from all five Star Trek television series and 11 Star Trek
feature films, including the new box office smash hit, which chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow U.S.S Enterprise
"Once again, we've successfully endeavored to bring our visitors an exhibition that everyone on the planet - and even strange new worlds - can relate to, learn from and enjoy" Peter Friess, president of The Tech Museum, said of the world's most complete collection of authentic Star Trek
artifacts ever put on public display. "Star Trek is deeply grounded in science and technology topics such as physics and astronomy. We think visiting scientists, engineers, educators and others will agree that hosting the Exhibition at The Tech Museum is perfectly logical."
As in past blockbusters such as "Leonardo: 500 Years into the Future
," The Tech Museum has partnered with Team San Jose to bring the popular showcase to Silicon Valley. The Exhibition, spread across more than 15,000-square-feet, will be housed in Parkside Hall - operated by Team San Jose - adjacent to the museum.
"Team San Jose is delighted to partner once again with The Tech Museum in bringing this exciting blockbuster exhibition to San Jose," said Dan Fenton, chairman of Team San Jose. "The same spirit of innovation and looking to the future that originally inspired Star Trek is the driving force of our city. This event is a perfect fit for San Jose."
The strength of the Exhibition resides at the point where science meets science fiction. Every Star Trek series features men and women who go beyond perceived boundaries to find and connect with new worlds. But for every Kirk, there is an Armstrong; for every Scotty, there is an Einstein; for every Bones, there is a Pasteur. The Exhibition brings Star Trek's characters to life and reminds us of the pioneering efforts of real life scientists and explorers.
Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry grounded the Star Trek series in real scientific principles, theories, and extrapolations. STAR TREK: THE EXHIBITION builds on this tradition by using Star Trek's imagined future to teach real science, including the development of the cell phone and NASA's mission control; quantum teleportation; space travel, and inertia
The interactive exhibition is the ultimate experience for fans and first-timers, encouraging visitors to step inside the Star Trek universe and experience the unmatched imagination, vibrant artistry and groundbreaking technology that have made Star Trek the most enduring science fiction franchise in history. Visitors will be immersed in an environment chock full of opportunities to learn about topics such as science & technology, cultural diversity, philosophy, creativity and the arts.
Additional highlights of STAR TREK: THE EXHIBITION include:
- An authentic replica of the bridge from the U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701 as featured in the original Star Trek television series
- The trifecta of the Star Trek universe: a tricorder; a phaser, and a communicator - all from the original series
- A chance to ride through a Star Trek adventure in a full-motion flight simulator (extra fee)
- The actual shooting model for the Borg Cube, that impending vision of doom as seen on Star Trek: the Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine and in the movie Star Trek: First Contact
