It's-a me, Mario!

Press Release Date
Tuesday, June 7, 2011
Dust off your joysticks, grab your Scrabble Dictionary and brush up on your trivia prowess - and whatever you do, don't miss Silicon Valley's lava-hot new nighttime event: The Tech Museum After Hours. Get your game on during the premiere night of science, socializing, entertainment and drinks for the 21-and-above set. The Tech Museum After Hours gets under way at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 6 - and the first Wednesday each month hereafter - with a cool, themed event. First up: Game Night. Guests can compete for prizes playing old-school Nintendo - guiding Super Mario ever toward his princess or kicking it with Street Fighter II - on a 25-foot screen surrounded by 13,000 watts of wrap-around digital sound in The Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater. Sip on a glow-in-the-dark "Tech-Tini" from a no-host bar and try your hand at 4-foot tall Jenga style blocks, giant Tic Tac Toe, and monster-size foam dominoes. Sample some grub from our limited café menu and explore the entire museum under moody blue lighting and contemporary sounds. Or jump into any of the more than 60 different board games, video games and party games from Cranium to Scrabble to Yahtzee! "The Tech Museum has always reflected the innovation of Silicon Valley, whether in our galleries, our labs, films or special exhibitions," museum Vice President of Operations said. "After hours, we're going to use that same innovation to transform the museum into one of the most exciting hotspots in the valley." Each month, the museum will dim the lights and sponsor the nighttime affair, which is meant to encourage hipsters - techie and not-so-techie - to check out the museum, meet new people and have fun. Upcoming After Hours events include "Cosmos under and Cosmos," and other entertaining themes that will include DJs or live music. Presented by homefrys, the fun starts at 6 p.m. and flows until 10. Tickets are $10 for museum members; $12 at the door. Pre-buy online at and pay member price (service charges may apply). For more information, +1 (408) 294-8324.
