Maker madness goes with the flow

Open Make @ The Tech to showcase innovations using electrical flow
Press Release Date
Friday, April 25, 2014
SAN JOSE, CA – This Saturday, April 26, The Tech Museum of Innovation will be abuzz with a gathering of Makers at Open Make: Flow. From Young Makers working on projects for Maker Faire to Makers who have turned their projects into inspiring jobs and companies, meet Makers doing innovative things with circuits, creativity and electrical flow.

Let creativity and innovation spark the Maker in you! Enter The Grid – a giant interactive platform of 64 interlocking floor tiles that communicate with each other – or take your drawings for a spin and create music with the MIDI MusicBox when you combine conductive materials, a gramophone, MaKey MaKey, and your imagination.

Throughout the day  visitors can take part in The Tech’s programming featuring Switch It Up!, LightUp, STEAM Dojo by Benesse, Evil Mad Scientists, Anthrolume, Electropocalypse, UCSC OpenLab Spastic Robots and Frankenthings, Google Glass, and Arduino Workshops. Guests can also Meet-the-Makers when a select group takes the stage to share their innovations and passions for making. A Q&A session moderated by Rick Schertle, Make Magazine contributor, will take place afterward.
Following the programming, a Young Makers Plussing Session will allow students in Young Makers clubs to come together to share their innovations for this year’s Maker Faire. Plussing (a Pixar term for making an idea even better) allows teams to get feedback on their in-progress projects from other participants. Teams also will practice talking about their projects, the challenges they are facing, and how they intend to overcome them.
Open Make is a collaboration between The Tech and Maker Education Initiative, a program highlighting the tools, techniques and ingenuity of local Makers.
