Nobel Prize Exhibition Opens at The Tech Museum of Innovation

The Tech Museum of Innovation (The Tech), one of the nation's premiere science and technology museums, today unveiled nobel! >100 Years of the Nobel Prize, a unique exhibition celebrating the extraordinary winners of the prestigious international honor and their work. On display now through May 23 on the Upper Level Gallery of The Tech, this fascinating exhibit features video interviews with the laureates discussing their passion for their work and the spirit of creativity and innovation. Portraits of laureates taken by esteemed science photographer Volker Steger are also on display, including several featuring Nobel laureates living and working in the Bay Area. "The Nobel Prize stands alone in distinguishing and recognizing the global achievements of leaders in chemistry, physics, physiology or medicine, economics, literature and peacekeeping," said Peter Friess, President of The Tech. "With 27 laureates from the Bay Area, it is altogether fitting that The Tech has the opportunity to bring this very special exhibit to Silicon Valley." The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma and a cash award. A total of 797 laureates have been awarded since the inception of the prize in 1901 as established by the will of Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel. nobel! >100 Years of the Nobel Prize, was jointly produced, organized and developed by the Smithsonian Institution's Lemelson Center and the Deutsches Museum Bonn, with funding from The Lemelson Foundation. Tech Museum President Peter Friess and his wife, designer Birgit Binner of tg2b, a new graphic design firm located in San Jose, Calif., were co-creators of the exhibition.
