U.S. - Mongolian Summit at The Tech Museum

Press Release Date
Monday, October 18, 2010
U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia Jonathan Addleton, a renowned diplomat and career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, will visit The Tech Museum for an up-close experience with the legendary Mongolian warlord and statesman Genghis Khan. Addleton, who was appointed to the post last July by President Barack Obama, is charged with helping to encourage more foreign investment and trade between the United States and Mongolia, a largely isolated country sandwiched between northern China and Russia. He has served as USAID Mission Director in Pakistan, Cambodia and Mongolia. Addleton has also worked at the World Bank and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Genghis Khan: The Exhibition, which is meant to bring broader awareness about Mongolia, its people and Genghis Khan, features more than 200 rare treasures including gold jewelry, silk robes, musical instruments and sophisticated weaponry - many of which have never been seen outside Mongolia - in the exhibition's only West Coast appearance. Visitors can explore a life-sized ger, the traditional Mongolian dwelling, visit the walled capital city of Karakorum, and be awed by the Mongolian Noble Woman Mummy. The exhibition closes October 24 after a five-month run. WHO: JonathanAddleton, U.S. Ambassador of Mongolia Dr. Peter Friess, president of The Tech Museum WHERE: The Tech Museum, 201 S.
