"Forces of Nature" showcases the awesome spectacle of earthquakes, volcanoes, and severe storms in larger than life images and sounds. Learn what is being done to predict and prepare for these events – and minimize their deadly effects – as you come face-to-face with Earth's most destructive forces.
"Forces of Nature" showcases three scientists aiming to improve our odds of surviving these terrifying events:
· Travel to Turkey with Dr. Ross Stein of the USGS as he studies the North Anatolian Fault and makes predictions for the next big earthquake
· Explore Montserrat's active and tempestuous volcano with Dr. Marie Edmonds as she searches for signs of future eruptions
· Barrel down "Tornado Alley" with Dr. Joshua Wurman and his team as they try to get a radar's-eye view inside a tornado, to see how funnel clouds are born
"Forces of Nature" is narrated by critically renowned actor Kevin Bacon and was produced by National Geographic, award-winning producers of "Mysteries of Egypt" and "Lewis & Clark," in partnership with Graphic Films. Amica Insurance is the exclusive corporate sponsor of the film.
Unlike traditional flat-screen IMAX theaters, the state-of-the-art Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater features an eight-story, giant domed screen and six-channel, digital wrap-around sound with 12,000 watts of power from 44 speakers. It seats 295 people in special reclining chairs that accentuate the feeling of actually being in the movie.
Tickets to The Tech's galleries and IMAX Dome Theater are $9, $8 and $7 each for general admission, seniors and children, respectively. Combo tickets (galleries and one IMAX film) are available for $16, $15, $13 for general admission, seniors and children, respectively. For tickets, visit The Tech's ticket office at 201 S. Market St. in downtown San Jose, call (408) 294-TECH (8324) or go to www.thetech.org . The Tech is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
