"CANSTRUCTION raises community awareness for the plight of the hungry, and also demonstrates, through participating architects, the same design challenge learning process that we engage our guests in," said Yolanda Canny, The Tech's VP of Marketing. "Our Engineer It! exhibit, which focuses on the fun and creative side of structural engineering, is the perfect complement to a CANSTRUCTION visit at The Tech."
"Most people donate food during the holiday season, but thousands of people don't have enough to eat all through the year," said Jenny Luciano, a spokesperson for Second Harvest Food Bank. "CANSTRUCTION is an amazing program, generating large scale food donations over the course of the year in a truly unique way. We're really excited to be working with The Tech on this year's program."
"The uniqueness of CANSTRUCTION lies in the fact that it is one of those rare community service events that crosses all religious, political, racial and national boundaries for a common good," said Cheri Melillo, National Executive Director of CANSTRUCTION.
CANSTRUCTION events are hosted annually in 45 North American cities. The Society of Design Administration (SDA), founders of CANSTRUCTION, hopes that all nations around the world will join them in the effort to make their vision to "CANstruct a World without Hunger" a reality.
Participating local firms:
Biggs Cardosa Associates
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc (SGH)
The Steinberg Group, Architects
