"Combining the artistic expression of these talented kids from all corners of the Bay Area and the technology showcased in Amazing Music Studio is a great way to experience this new exhibit," said Yolanda Canny, The Tech's Vice President of Marketing. "We want our guests to be fully immersed in the music experience – seeing and hearing live performances, interacting in the exhibits, and learning something new about music creation and performance."
Amazing Music Studio lets guests test their skills at a DJ mix table, wow onlookers in the karaoke shower, create a light and sound show, and even star in their own music video. Amazing Music Studio and the new IMAX feature Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey prove that rhythm and expression can connect people of all ages and backgrounds.
Amazing Music Studio
Rehearsal – A variety of exhibits demonstrate the physics of sound waves and harmonics. See if you can hold a tune or recognize whether musical notes are going up or down.
Composing – Could you pull a band together|@ Practice keeping a drum beat or try out as a DJ, then play an invisible harp and dance on a giant piano. Compete against others at keeping the music going on the music wall.
The Studio – Recording technology has come a long way, from recording horns of the late 19th century to modern CDs and all digital formats. Try mixing your own 4-track tape, or exploring a virtual Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles made some of their greatest recordings.
Listening – Find out how well your ears work and whether you can hear through other parts of your body. Nostalgia fans can choose their favorite record of the past fifty years, and decide if they prefer the cover version or the original.
On Stage – Everyone can have a go at singing in the karaoke shower or dancing in their own music video. Also see how a professional stage designer puts on a rock show.
Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey
Don't miss Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey for more toe-tapping fun in the Hackworth IMAX Dome. Pulse explores rhythm across varied continents and cultures – guided by the internationally acclaimed performers of the stage hit STOMP. Travel the world to meet artists such as Timbalada of Brazil, the Kodo drummers of Japan, the American Indian Dance Theater, and the Jackie Robinson Steppers of New York. Pulse was voted Best Film of the Year at the recent Giant Screen Theater Conference in Montreal.
Amazing Music is sponsored by The Tech Emeritus Board.
