Please feel free to go to the main volunteer page or Click here to see current volunteer opportunities

How long is each volunteer commitment?

The monthly time commitment varies by volunteer position. For example, Exhibit Explainers volunteer for at least two 4.5 hour shifts per month, which is about nine hours per month. Gallery Technicians usually volunteer for one to two days per week. Evening event volunteers volunteer for at least two events per month.

Will I be trained before I start my volunteer work?

Training provided depends on the volunteer position. Those that volunteer as an Exhibit Interpreters or Evening Event volunteers are required to attend a 90 minute orientation followed by a three hour training session.  We offer our orientations and trainings on the 2nd and 4th Saturday mornings for your convenience.  Usually on-the-floor training is provided for other volunteer positions. Please note: all adult volunteers must pass a criminal background screening before they work in the museum. The cost of the screening is covered by The Tech.
