Badge Programs @ The Tech Museum of Innovation
The Tech has developed two new programs designed for the new Girl Scout Badge system. Junior Girl Scouts can begin the process to earn their Entertainment Technology or Detective Badges.
Each program runs 2 hours in length. Participants must make payment for program at the time of registration. If a session does not have the minimum number of participants three weeks prior to delivery, The Tech reserves the right to cancel the session.
Badges are given to scout leaders. Girl Scouts must complete all the steps of a badge process before earning their badge. The Tech will provide resources (websites, worksheets, tutorials, tips, etc.) for completing the remaining steps.
Entertainment Technology Badge – Amusement Innovator
This is your chance to design your own amusement park! Girl Scouts begin by creating the mascots for their amusement park, and then proceed to animate them! Next, girls build prototypes of the awesome rides for their park, while learning about the science that makes roller coasters tick. Finally, girls make custom 3-D glasses and learn how to make their own 3-D images for an enhanced amusement park experience! This program involves activities that cover 3 steps of the Entertainment Technology Badge process:
NOTE: Girl Scouts have to complete Step 2: Dig Into Video Game Development and Step 5: Surf a Sound Wave to finish earning the badge. The Tech Museum of Innovation will provide resources (websites, worksheets, tutorials, tips, etc.) for completing the remaining steps.
Detective Badge – Tech Detective
Do you have what it takes to be a Tech Detective? Girl Scouts begin by sharpening their skills of observation with brain challenging puzzles. Girl Scouts then learn how to obtain and analyze fingerprints, and apply their knowledge to make a custom Tech Detective ID! Next, girls learn about DNA – what it is, what it is made of, and how it is used to solve crimes. Finally, girls perform an experiment to extract real DNA! This program involves activities that cover 3 steps of the Detective Badge process:
NOTE: Girl Scouts have to complete Step 2: Communicate in Code and Step 5: Follow the Clues to Solve a Real Mystery to finish earning the badge. The Tech Museum of Innovation will provide resources (websites, worksheets, tutorials, tips, etc.) for completing the remaining steps.
*If a session does not have the minimum number of participants 3 weeks prior to delivery, The Tech Museum reserves the right to cancel the session.
