The IMAX® Dome Theater at The Tech Interactive is a 280-seat dome theater in downtown San Jose featuring a 9,000-square-foot wraparound dome screen and 13,000 watts of digital surround sound. Guests can experience educational films, Hollywood films, and select special presentations in a theater designed for immersive sound and visuals.

About the IMAX Dome Theater
In our 280-seat IMAX Dome Theater you’ll see, hear and feel more, with the world’s first laser projector for a dome theater, 9,000+ square feet of wraparound image, and 13,000 watts of digital surround sound. The IMAX dome experience with a laser projector is technically advanced and visually stunning, a one-of-a-kind movie experience. Offerings from renowned filmmaking companies like National Geographic and MacGillivray Freeman educate and entertain, with adventure, drama and emotion unfolding via IMAX’s trademark visual clarity and sound quality.
Seating is not assigned in the IMAX Dome Theater. Please arrive early to find your preferred seats.
What can you see in the dome?
The Tech’s dome theater hosts educational films, Hollywood films, LASERS! shows, private events, and select special presentations. Educational IMAX films are included with general admission. Hollywood films, LASERS! shows, and special events may require separate tickets.

It's really big. The Tech Interactive’s IMAX Dome Theater is the largest dome theater in California, with a 9,000-square-foot wraparound dome screen and seating for 280 guests. Flattened out, the screen would be about 95 feet by 95 feet, roughly wide enough for two adult T. rexes laid nose-to-tail. Its curved design and 13,000 watts of digital surround sound create an experience that feels larger than life, whether you are traveling through deep space, diving under the ocean, or standing face-to-face with prehistoric giants.
Is museum admission included with an IMAX film?
One educational IMAX film is included with general admission. Hollywood films and special presentations require a separate ticket and do not include museum admission.
Are seats assigned?
No. Seating is first come, first served. Please arrive early to find your preferred seats.
Where is the IMAX Dome Theater located?
The theater is located inside The Tech Interactive at 201 S. Market St. in downtown San Jose.
Can I buy concessions?
Yes. The concession stand offers popcorn, beverages, candy, and other snacks.
Is the theater available for private events?
Yes. The dome theater is available for select private events and group experiences.
